FRM, a startup based in north-east Italy, is focused on the development, production and management of high pressure aeroponic modules for vertical cultivation of bio-fortified plants. FRM wants to tackle the growing problem of micronutrient deficiency in the population, like iron and vitamin B12 deficiencies. In almost every country of the western world, over half of women of childbearing age don’t get the recommended intake of iron, according to a 2019 study. Vitamin B12 deficiency is also a rising concern; the boom in popularity for vegetarian and plant-based diets deprives consumers of meat – the main dietary source of the micronutrient. For FRM the choice to carry out plants production using aeroponics has sev-eral positive implications, in particular a significant reduction in the use of water. FRM system also pro-vides for the recovery of water from the air conditioning module, and spray it directly on the roots of the plants. The water recovery takes place through the adoption of an osmotic system supported by an ozo-nation cycle which guarantees the sterility of the water as well as increasing the oxygenation level of the water.
